Born in 1940, Krishnam Raju entered the film industry in 1966. ‘Chilaka Gorinka’ is his first acting movie. After that, he became famous for his roles with a lot of negative shade. Krishnam Raju acted in the movie ‘Bhakta Kannappa’ in 1976. He got a lot of popularity from that movie. By the way, it is Dr. Rajkumar’s first movie was a remake of Bedara Kannappa. He became very famous with movies like ‘Hanthakulu Devanthakulu’, ‘Tandra Paparayudu’, ‘Bobbili Brahmana’, ‘Rangoon Rowdy’, ‘Trishulam’, ‘Mana Voori Pandavulu’, ‘Two Town Rowdy’. Telugu cinephiles fondly called him ‘Rebel Star’. Krishnam Raju has acted in more than 180 films in his 56-year career. Prabhas starrer ‘Radhe Shyam’ released this year is Krishnam Raju’s last movie.
Krishnam Raju produced many movies along with his brother Uppalapatti Surya Narayan Raju (Prabhas father). By the way, Krishnam Raju’s full name is Uppalapatti Venkata Krishnam Raju. Prabhas was mentored by Krishnam Raju after his brother Surya Narayan Raju passed away. Actor Prabhas also had immense love and respect for his grandfather. Krishnam Raju, who was identified with the BJP party, was earlier in the Congress party. He contested the 1992 elections from the Congress party and lost. After a short break in 1998, he contested the Kakinada Lok Sabha elections from the BJP party and won. In 1999, Krishnam Raju, who won the elections again, worked as a Union Minister. Krishnam Raju has received Filmfare Award five times and Nandi Award twice. Krishnam Raju acted in Shivarajkumar starrer ‘Sindha Mari’ and Sasikumar starrer ‘Hi Bangalore’. Both these movies were released in 1997. After that he did not act in Kannada movies again.
