But there is also a country where the number of Indian students is increasing rapidly. Actually, we are talking about Canada, which has emerged as the second most popular destination for Indian students studying abroad. This is the reason that on Friday, the Government of India issued an advisory for Indians traveling in Canada in connection with studies and work. In this, he has been asked to be vigilant during his stay in Canada, because cases of hate crime are being seen in the country. At the same time, America has emerged as the most popular destination for studies with 4.56 lakh Indian students. We get this information from the data of the Ministry of External Affairs. United Arab Emirates is at number three, where 1.64 lakh Indian students are studying.

Canada trying to beat the US in terms of students

In many ways, the increase in the number of Indian students in Canada almost reflects the situation in America. Data from the Ministry of External Affairs shows that in the first six months of 2022, 64,667 Indians going abroad for studies named the US as their destination, followed by Canada (60,258). Before the pandemic, in 2019, 1,32,620 Indian students went to Canada to study. However, then in 2020 the Kovid epidemic spread and this number fell to 43,624. But in 2021 once again it increased to 1,02,688.

Number of students going to Canada increased in 5 years

According to data from Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) analyzed by Canadian edtech firm ApplyBoard, the number of Indian students studying in Canada has increased by about 220 per cent between 2016 and 2021. The thing to note here is that most of the students are choosing business program as their field of study. The number of Indian students studying business and management in Canada has increased from 10,000 in 2016 to around 50,000 in 2021.
