In fact, the Odisha government has decided to give preference and extra marks (in government jobs) to short-term healthcare workers who render their services during the Covid-19 pandemic. A senior health department official gave this information on Thursday. He told that these short term health workers will be given preference in the next recruitment examination for various posts like Nursing Officer, Pharmacist, Radiographer, Lab Technician and Multi-Purpose Health Workers.

The official said that during the pandemic, thousands of short-term health workers took up responsibilities like nursing officers, pharmacists, radiographers, lab technicians and multi-purpose health workers. They were deployed at district headquarters hospitals, medical colleges and hospitals and Covid care centres.
He said that keeping in view the contribution of these health workers in dealing with the pandemic situation, on the instructions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the government has made a policy of awarding additional marks in the recruitment examinations in favor of the Part-time COVID-19 Health Workers Rules, 2022.
Five percent extra marks will be given in the exam
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Shalini Pandit said that these short term COVID-19 health workers, who were engaged for a minimum period of three months, would be recruited by the Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) for Nursing Officer, Pharmacist, Radiographer, Lab Technician and Multipurpose Health Worker. 5% additional marks will be awarded in the next recruitment examination to be conducted by OSSSC.
The Health Secretary, however, made it clear that this arrangement would be for one time only. Earlier such health workers had demanded to be employed in the government. He said that due to being removed from service due to short term service, he felt that he was thrown out after the epidemic.
