After the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Chief Minister addressed the program. The welcome address in the program was delivered by Mehboobul Haque, Chancellor, USTM while the Presidential address was delivered by R.S. Musahari's. Lakhmen Rimbui also addressed the program. Services will be free for the people of Meghalaya: Mehboob Haque
Addressing the media, Mehboob Haque said, "One of the main features of the Medical College and Hospital is the 200 bedded super specialty hospital, which has all kinds of technical facilities with state-of-the-art research. After its mission, this hospital will be completely free of cost for all poor patients.
"In addition, we will make its service completely free for the people of Meghalaya," he said. Another important perspective of this noble initiative is the emphasis on comprehensive research on healthcare. This new institution has its own unique goal: to attract patients and students from ASEAN countries. During the initial phase, it will specifically target patients and students from Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
Air ambulance facility will be there in the hospital
While replying to media persons, Ronda Vetere said that she is very happy to be USTM's global ambassador. She will contribute to developing a holistic unified communications strategy through international exposure to promote and enhance the visibility of the University and its mission globally.
She said that she will provide consultancy on organizational structure, governance and administration along with collaboration with world-class institutions. Apart from all the technical services and hi-tech equipment, the medical college and hospital will have air ambulance facility. A network of ambulance services will be provided covering Guwahati and Shillong.
A mobile app will also be developed to enable hassle-free admission of patients and quick access to ambulances and various other facilities, Waiter said. This will save their time and doctors will be available when they reach the hospital. USTM will organize national and international seminars and conferences in the healthcare sector. Foreign doctors expressed their desire to join the health mission
Mehboob Haque also said that there are many doctors from the Northeast who are working abroad. Already have expressed their interest to join this health mission. To execute its mission Global, USTM has selected Madame Rhonda Vetere, one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology. She said that Ronda Vetere is a writer and a New York-based global leader who works for universities around the world. Today, she joins the USTM campus as the Global Ambassador of USTM to mark the foundation stone laying ceremony of the medical college.
