Maximum 1.04 crore students enrolled in “BA” in higher education; Highest number of PhD students in engineering: AISHE survey

The highest number of 1.04 crore students have enrolled in Bachelor of Arts (BA) courses and 49.12 lakh in Bachelor of Science (BSaC) among higher educational institutions of the country. This information was received from the All India Higher Education Survey (AISHE) 2020-21 released by the Ministry of Education on Sunday. The Ministry has been conducting the All India Survey of Higher Education since 2011. As per the survey, 1.04 crore students are enrolled in Bachelor of Arts (BA) courses, which includes 52.7 per cent boys and 47.3 per cent girls. In Bachelor of Science (BSAC), 49.12 lakh students have enrolled, of which 52.2 percent are girl students. Similarly, 43.22 lakh students have enrolled in Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), of which 48.5 per cent are girls. 23.20 lakh students enrolled in ‘B.Tech’, of which 28.7 percent are girls. Similarly, 13.42 lakh students enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (BE), of which 28.5 per cent are girls. As per the report, the total enrolled students in undergraduate courses are around 79.06 percent and 11.5 percent students enrolled in postgraduate courses. It said that in order of subjects in graduation, the highest enrollment (33.5 per cent) was done in Arts. It is followed by science (15.5 per cent), commerce (13.9 per cent) and engineering and technology (11.9 per cent).

On the other hand, maximum number of students enrolled in social science (20.56 per cent) in post-graduation. After this, enrollment has been done in science (14.83 percent). In total enrollments, 55.5 lakh students enrolled in science. In this, the number of girl students is 29.5 lakh and the number of boys is 26 lakh. In post graduation, the maximum number of students enrolled in social science is 9.41 lakh. Of this, 56.5 percent are girls. After this, 6,79,178 students enrolled in Science, of which 61.3 percent are girls. In Management stream, 6,86,001 students took admission, of which 43.1 per cent are girls. The maximum number of students enrolled in PhD in engineering and technology. After this he enrolled in Science. As per the survey report, enrollment of girl students increased from 1.88 crore in 2019-20 to 2.01 crore in 2020-21. In this way the enrollment of women has increased by 13 lakhs. The gross enrollment rate has increased from 25.6 in the year 2019-20 to 27.3 per cent. An increase of 1.8 per cent has been recorded in the Gross Enrollment Rate (GER) of Scheduled Tribe students in 2020-21 as compared to the year 2019-20. It was said that the enrollment of students belonging to Scheduled Castes increased from 46.06 lakh in the year 2014-15 to 56.57 lakh in the year 2019-20 and 58.95 lakh in the year 2020-21.

At the same time, enrollment of students belonging to Scheduled Tribes increased from 16.41 lakh in the year 2014-15 to 21.6 lakh in the year 2019-20 and 24.1 lakh in the year 2020-21. Enrollment of Other Backward Class (OBC) students in higher education increased from 1.42 crore in the year 2019-20 to 1.48 crore in 2021-21.
