World University Rankings 2024: 91 universities of India have made it to the World University Rankings by the famous Times Higher Education magazine of London. Universities from 108 countries have been included in this list. IIS-Bangalore has made it to the list of top 250 universities for the first time since 2017 in the global university list announced by The Times. Last year, 75 Indian universities were included in this list, but it has increased every year. In terms of number of universities, India has been ranked fourth in this list, last year this position was sixth.
The best performing universities in India include Anna University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mahatma Gandhi University, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences. At the same time, a total of seven IITs had opted out of the global university ranking.
Which included Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. After this, doubts were raised on the transparency and standards of the ranking. IIT Guwahati re-entered the rankings last year. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad found place in this list.
At the same time, Anna University in Chennai, Aligarh Muslim University, Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur have entered the ranking for the first time by entering the 601-800 band.
The list included 1,904 universities from 108 countries, up from 1,799 last year. Britain’s Oxford University topped the list, while Stanford University was in second place. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is in third place.
165 universities have been ranked for the first time, of which 89 are from Asia and one new rank is from mainland China. There are 33 Asian universities in the top 200 in this list.
