IAS officers cannot see with their eyes, this is how they cleared the UPSC exam in the second attempt

UPSC Civil Services Exam is one of the toughest exams in the country. Lakhs of candidates attempt this exam every year, however, only a few thousand candidates make it through all the three stages, i.e. Prelims, Mains and Interview round.

Today, we are going to share the success story of Samyak Jain who secured 7th rank in UPSC exam. Let me tell you, despite being visually impaired, Samyak Jain has passed the UPSC exam in the second attempt. Let’s know how he did the preparation.

Samyak Jain hails from Delhi and was born and brought up in the national capital. At the age of 18, he was diagnosed with a serious problem with his eyes and by the age of 21, he had lost his ability to read and write. Both his mother and father are working in Air India. Presently he lives with his mother and his father is living in Paris due to his posting. He says that he has got the constant support of his family during the preparation.

Samyak has completed his graduation in BA English (Hons) from Delhi. He then did a PG Diploma in English Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi. After completing this, he enrolled at Jawaharlal Nehru University for a master’s degree in International Relations.

UPSC preparation was like this

Samyak Jain started his preparation for UPSC exam in the year 2020. At that time the country was affected by Kovid-19 and the lockdown was imposed. Although there was not much to do at that time, so he decided to utilize this home isolation period to prepare for the CSE exam.

In the year 2020, Samyak appeared for the UPSC exam for the first time, but failed to clear it. However, he did not give up and again appeared in the UPSC exam 2021. Eventually his dedication and hard work paid off and he secured the 7th rank. Samyak Jain says that he used to read books in audio format and his mother was his writer on the day of the exam.

According to Samyak, it is necessary to study continuously to crack the exam. He used to study for at least seven hours a day for his preparation. Along with this, giving repeated mock tests can help you in your preparation. His knowledge and interest in national and international news has played a vital role in achieving success in the examination. Let me tell you, Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) were the optional subjects of Samyak in the UPSC exam.
