Dr Ruth John, a resident of Khammam district, said, 'This is a big day for me and my community. I was not expecting this because after graduating in 2018, I had to face rejections from 15 hospitals in Hyderabad. He never directly told me that the reason for the rejection was my identity, but it was very clear.
Recalling his journey, he said, 'When my identity came before the world after MBBS, my qualification didn't matter to any hospital.' Dr. Ruth John has studied at Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.
had to leave the job due to gender
The story of Dr. Prachi has also been exactly like that of Dr. Ruth. She started the process of gender change while working in the private sector. The 30-year-old doctor said, 'When the private hospital came to know about the transition, I was asked to leave. He behaved rudely with me and said that patients would stop coming to the hospital because of my identity. Dr. Prachi has obtained MBBS degree from RIMS, Adilabad.
Worked in transgender clinic 'Mitra'
At the same time, both the doctors reached USAID's transgender clinic 'Mitra', which is located in Narayanguda, after getting continuous rejections. After joining 'Mitra' in 2021, his livelihood started. However, this was the time when both the doctors were going through the process of surgery along with work. It was a difficult time for him.
Dr. Ruth says that there are still some patients who discriminate against him. But there are people who recover after treatment. They then refer other patients to us as well. However, still both need to fight a long battle.
