TOEFL Exam:TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a popular English proficiency test. It is conducted to assess a person’s ability to use and understand the English language. It tests reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to perform various academic tasks. TOEFL is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). It sets questions and conducts tests and provides score cards to the examiners. This test has to be given to those people especially students, whose mother tongue is not English and who use English as a second language. It is necessary to pass this test in more than 130 countries to get education. It is recognized by more than 8,500 colleges/universities.

Test Format
This test is conducted in two formats. In which the first is an internet based test, which is called TOFEL IBT, while the second is a paper based test, which is called TOFEL PBT format. You can choose any of the two formats as per your test center. Most of the students in India follow the IBT format but at test centers that do not have the facility to take internet based tests, paper based tests are offered.

1. TOEFL IBT Format
The TOEFL IBT test tests the ability to understand and use English at the university level. Along with this, it is also checked how you use the ability to speak, listen, write and read English in your academic career. This test is of 4:30 hours, which is taken on QWERTY keyboard, so practice on QWERTY keyboard should be done before giving the test.

Method of Questions in TOEFL
1. There are 3-5 passages of 700 words each and 12-14 questions based on each passage. Total 36-70 questions will be asked from you in this.
2. The test will consist of 4 to 6 lectures of 3 to 5 minutes, 6 questions in each lecture and 2 to 3 conversations of 3 minutes each, consisting of 5 questions. There will be total 34-51 questions.
3. In the test, you will get two tasks to speak on any topic. The remaining 4 tasks will be based on the reading and listening test taken earlier on which you will have to speak.
4. In one task you will have to write, which will be based on the reading and listening test taken earlier and in one task you will have to write on a particular topic.

Test Score
Your marking in this test will be based on 0 to 120 points. A score of 90 or more is considered the best score. By the way, every university decides according to its own how many points it will give admission to the students in the TOEFL.

2. TOEFL PBT Format
In this, paper and pen are used instead of internet for the test. This test is of about 3:30 hours in which your listening, reading, writing and structure in English is checked. This test can be given 6 times in a year at centers where IBT format of TOEFL is not available. The questions asked in this paper are also like online format.

How To Get Good Score In TOEFL
Always complete the test to get a good score. If unable to complete, then at least one question from Reading, Listening section, one Essay from Writing section and at least one task from Speaking section must be completed.
