New academic session is going to start soon in colleges across the country. In such a situation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has already made preparations to deal with serious crimes like ragging. UGC has asked all colleges and universities to tighten their anti-ragging rules. According to the notification issued by the commission, the UGC has asked to take a number of precautionary measures from setting up of anti-ragging cells in the college campus to installation of CCTV cameras. After admission, cases of ragging are usually seen in many colleges.

The UGC has asked colleges to set up anti-ragging committees, anti-ragging squads, anti-ragging cells and cameras at prominent places in the college. Apart from this, the UGC asked the colleges to organize anti-ragging workshops at their own places. In its latest notification, the UGC has asked all the colleges, 'Continuous dialogue should be held with the students and counseling sessions should be organized for them.' It has asked the colleges to ensure that the issues posed by them and the anti-ragging warnings in the e-information booklet of the college.

Instructions to put up anti-ragging posters

In the notification, the UGC said that surprise inspections should be carried out at places like hostels, students, accommodation, canteens, recreational rooms, toilets, bus stands. Anti-ragging posters should be put up at places like admission centre, department, library, canteen, hostel, common facility. The notification further said, 'Students troubled by problems like ragging can call the National Anti-Ragging Helpline Number 1800-180-5522 {24×7 Toll Free). He can also mail to the Anti-Ragging Helpline email [email protected] At the same time, others can visit antiragging.in for any kind of information. Apart from this, students can call the Center for Youth (C4Y) mobile number 9818044577.
