There is a ‘five day working’ culture all over the world, which means that one has to work for five days every week. However, even after having a ‘five day working’ culture, people find it difficult to maintain work life balance. This is the reason that now preparations have been made to bring ‘four day working’ culture. Actually, UK 100 companies have agreed for ‘Four Day Working Week’ (work only four days a week). During this, the salary of the employees working in these companies will also not be reduced. This means that even after working for four days, they will get salary equal to five days.
2600 people work in these 100 UK companies. But through the 4 Day Week Campaign, it is hoped that this will bring about a transformational change in the country. Two of Britain's largest companies are also included in the 100 companies. Both these companies are Atom Bank and Global Marketing Company Awin. 450-450 employees work in Atom Bank and Awin.
Both the companies have officially adopted the 'Four Day Working Week'. This means that he has now reduced the working hours for his employees. The working week in Britain is 35 hours. One has to work for 7 hours every day. This means that these companies have not converted the 35 hours into four days, but still the employee has to work for 7 hours a day. That is, only 28 hours in four days and a week.
What are the companies benefiting from?
- Productivity of companies is increasing with '4 day week'.
- The work of five days is being completed in four days.
- Employees are getting more attracted towards the companies having '4 day week'. Also staying there longer means fewer resignations.
- Employees working in companies with '4 Day Week' are taking fewer holidays than before.
Most transformative initiative in history
Supporters of 'Four Day Week' say that the pattern of working for five days is from the old economic era. Speaking to the Guardian, Adam Ross, chief executive of Awin, said that the adoption of new working patterns is one of the most transformational initiatives we have seen in history. Most of the companies adopting the new working pattern are related to sectors like technology, marketing. Apart from this, now some manufacturing and construction companies have also started adopting the new working pattern.
