Tomato Prices Fall: After a long rise in tomato prices, common people have now got relief. Till two months ago, the government was taking continuous steps to control the prices of tomatoes in the country, the effect of which is visible. Price fell to Rs 3 per kg
According to the news of English portal Live Mint, due to the steps taken by the government, the price of tomato which was being sold for up to Rs 250 per kg, has now increased to Rs 3 to Rs 10 per kg in many places. The maximum impact has been seen in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. According to the Agriculture Ministry, bumper production of tomatoes is expected in states like Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh between August and October. In such a situation, tomato production is expected to be 9.56 lakh tonnes in September 2023. Whereas in October it is expected to be 13 lakh tonnes. In such a situation, higher production can further reduce the price of tomato.
Government can help
According to the report published in Mint, the Horticulture Department has discussed this matter with the Consumer and Food Affairs Department. To provide relief to the farmers, the department can buy tomatoes worth Rs 10 to 20 crore from different states. It is worth noting that many farmers of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh had expressed their anger over the falling prices of tomatoes. Farmers say that the prices of tomatoes have decreased very rapidly in the last few days. Due to this, they are not even getting the money for their costs. In such a situation, this step of the government is expected to provide great relief to the farmers in the coming days.
