Corona virus is again causing havoc in China. Despite President Xi Jinping’s Zero Covid Policy, the havoc of the virus in China is not taking its name. The government there is shutting down city after city. People are not allowed to step out of the house. The administration is locking people’s houses by putting up placards from outside. But the closure of the city of China has created panic all over the world. This city is Zhengzhou, where more than 70 percent of the world’s iPhones are manufactured. Foxconn’s factory here is closed and the production of iPhone has come to a complete standstill.

Entire city closed due to labor protest

The Chinese government has locked down the entire city of Zhengzhou. There were reports of massive worker protests recently at the Foxconn-owned factory. Following the protests, the Chinese authorities decided to lock down the city and asked residents to stay at home and only go out if absolutely necessary.

Employees are demanding salary

Workers created a lot of ruckus at Foxconn’s factory on Wednesday. Several videos related to this have surfaced where workers were seen breaking surveillance cameras and Covid testing centres. The workers were heard raising slogans of ‘give us our pay’. They also complained of poor working conditions during the lockdown.

Foxconn admitted mistake

Foxconn has admitted a ‘technical error’ on its part after workers clashed. According to a Reuters report, the company claimed that a technical error occurred during the ongoing process. They issued a statement saying, “We apologize for an input error in the computer system and guarantee that the actual pay is the same as agreed and official rules.”

Outcry from Corona in China

A new surge in Covid cases is being seen in China. The company has reported a record number of cases since the pandemic began. There have been 31,454 cases in China on Wednesday. However, 25,517 cases are of mild corona. The prolonged lockdown has adversely affected the economic condition of the country. Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory is crucial for Apple iPhone production. The factory produces 70 percent of global iPhone sales.
