Mobile SIM Card Dealers: The central government has taken a big decision to prevent fraud through the SIM card of mobile phones. Police verification has been made mandatory for dealers selling SIM cards. as well as sim cards in bulk The provision of giving connection has also been banned. Railway and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has informed about this decision.
Ashwini Vaishnav told that the government has closed 52 lakh mobile connections. While 67,000 SIM card dealers have been blacklisted. Since May 2023, 300 FIRs have been registered against SIM card dealers. He told that WhatsApp has blocked 66,000 accounts on its behalf which were engaged in fraud. He said that police verification has been made mandatory for SIM card dealers and those found violating it would be fined Rs 10 lakh.
Ashwini Vaishnav said that the verification of SIM card dealers will be done by telecom companies. They will collect details of each applicant and his/her business related documents for verification before appointing a dealer. He told that there are 10 lakh SIM card dealers in the country and they will be given enough time to get their police verification done. Ashwini Vaishnav said that the service of bulk connection has been stopped. In its place, now the new provision of business connection has been implemented. Along with the KYC of the SIM dealers, the KYC of the person taking the SIM will also be done.
Actually, cyber fraudsters in the country immediately change the SIM card after committing the fraud. Some time ago 16000 pre-activated SIM cards were seized in Odisha. These SIM cards were taken in the name of people who were not aware of it.
