The Central Government’s Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM-Commission of Air Quality Management) has directed Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana to register only CNG and electric autos from January 1 and by the end of 2026 in the National Capital Region (NCR). Remove Diesel Auto from ). In an order issued on Wednesday, the Air Quality Management Commission said that from January 1, 2027, a target has been set to run only CNG and e-autos in the NCR.
The commission directed the three states to ensure registration of only CNG and e-autos in the NCR from January 1 and to phase out diesel autos by the end of 2026. NCR includes Delhi, 14 districts of Haryana, eight districts of Uttar Pradesh and two districts of Rajasthan. In Delhi, a program was started in 1998 to convert diesel auto rickshaws to CNG. At present, diesel-run autos are not registered in Delhi. The Delhi Transport Department had launched a scheme for registration of 4,261 e-autos in October last year.
Diesel autos to be completely phased out by 2026
CAQM-Commission of Air Quality Management has taken this decision to curb pollution. Diesel driven auto rickshaws will be removed from the roads of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat, Gurugram, Faridabad and Rohtak. The Air Quality Management Commission has written to the chief secretaries of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, asking them to completely remove diesel-run auto rickshaws from the roads by December 31, 2026.
December 2024 is the deadline for Noida, Gurugram
Autos will be removed from different districts of these NCR states in a phased manner. December 2024 has been fixed as the deadline for phasing out diesel autos from Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. While diesel autos in Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Baghpat will be removed by 31 December 2025. Apart from this, instructions have been given to remove diesel autos by 30 December 2026 in other cities of NCR.
