According to the data provided by CDSL and NSDL (NSDL), the total number of demat account holders in the country has increased to 110 million i.e. more than 11 crores. According to the data, only in the first month of the new year 2023, 22 lakh new demat accounts have been opened, which is the highest after August 2022. Although this is less than in January 2022, when 34 lakh people opened demat accounts in a single month, which is the highest in the last one year.
Although it is also believed that people wishing to apply in Adani Enterprises FPO opened demat accounts, but it is a different matter that after the research report released against Hindenburg’s Adani group, the company got 20,000 crores. Rupee had to withdraw its FPO as the share price of Adani Enterprises had slipped far below the FPO price level.
