Now Gadkari in preparation for making electric highway, trucks will run like a train like abroad

This move will ease the charging of trucks and buses with high freight carrying capacity. Addressing an event organized by industry body Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari reiterated that the government wants to make the country’s public transport system electric.

He said, the government is encouraging the development of solar and wind energy based charging systems for electric vehicles. We are also working on the development of electric highway. It will be powered by solar energy. This will facilitate on-the-go charging of trucks and buses with heavy freight carrying capacity.

An electric highway means a road that supplies electricity to the vehicles traveling on it. This includes the supply of energy through an overhead power line.

26 new expressways will be ready

Gadkari said that the road ministry is also encouraging toll plazas to be run on solar energy. He said that a well developed infrastructure enhances economic activities, creates new companies and increases employment opportunities. We are building 26 new expressways.

Gadkari said that with the launch of PM Gati Shakti Master Plan, projects will get faster approvals and this will reduce the logistic cost. He said that both India and the US are natural partners. He invited private investors from the US to invest in India's logistics, ropeway and cable car sectors.

3 crore trees will be planted on the highway

He said that about three crore trees would be planted along the national highways and the government was following the practice of planting trees during the construction and expansion of highways.

So far we have successfully planted 27,000 trees from one place to another in national highway projects. Gadkari said that the government is making a new policy for cutting and planting trees, named Tree Bank.
