Hyundai and Kia car owners be careful, it is easiest to steal them, know the big danger

There is a great demand for Hyundai and Kia cars in the Indian market. Both the auto companies of South Korea have maintained a good hold in the country’s car market. Models like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are quite popular in India. But a recent report has raised serious questions about the safety of the car of both the companies. According to this report, cars from Hyundai and Kia are the easiest prey for thieves. Next, we will know what is the drawback, which makes the car of Hyundai and Kia easily stolen compared to other companies.

Defects in 2015-2019 models

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIIHS), the biggest reason behind the theft of Hyundai and Kia cars is the lack of immobilizer in the car. According to the research by IIIHS, the car models of Hyundai and Kia made between 2015 and 2019 do not have an electronic immobilizer.

Hyundai-Kia: the danger is big

  1. The Highway Loss Data Institute, a unit of IIIHS, has found in its report that Hyundai and Kia without immobilizer have a car theft rate of 2.28 per 1,000 insured vehicle years. In other companies, this rate is 1.21 per 1,000 vehicle insured year. One insured vehicle year means one vehicle insured for one year.
  2. Chip-equipped keys were introduced since 1990. When this chip is not connected with another chip, the car does not start. That's why it is not so easy for any thief to start the engine of the car. However, other than the Kia Rio and Sportage, models like the Hyundai Accent do not have an immobilizer system.
  3. In 2015, the immobilizer was standard in 96 percent of the cars of other car companies. Whereas in the case of Hyundai and Kia, only 26 percent of the cars were given immobilizer. However, both the car companies have not given the reason behind not using immobilizer in their car.
  4. In some viral videos, it can be seen how thieves steal the cars of Kia and Hyundai. According to HT Auto, in these videos, thieves are seen removing the ignition cover from Hyundai and Kia vehicles, then using a screwdriver or USB cable to start the car.
  5. With the introduction of the 2022 model, Kia has started providing immobilizers in its vehicles. On the other hand, Hyundai says that all vehicles manufactured after November 1, 2021, have started using immobilizers as standard.
