South Korean auto major Hyundai is expected to achieve the highest ever sales figures in the Indian market this year due to removal of supply constraints. The company has sold the highest number of cars after Maruti in the month of August. Tarun Garg, Director (Sales and Service), Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), expressed this possibility in a conversation with PTI.
He said that with the improvement in semiconductor supply, the sales of vehicles are expected to be very good. Apart from this, the company also expects demand to pick up in the coming season. Garg said, the situation of semiconductors is getting better now and the trend of strength in demand is also going on. This year we are sincerely hopeful that we will be able to achieve our best sales figures in the Indian market.
5.5 lakh vehicles were sold in 2018
Hyundai's highest ever sales figure in India stood at 5.5 lakh vehicles in 2018. The company wholesaled 49,510 vehicles in the month of August which is an increase of 6 per cent over a year ago. Apart from this, the pending orders of various models of the company have also increased to 1.3 lakh.
Venue N Line launch
On Tuesday, Hyundai expanded its presence in the SUV segment with the launch of the N Line variant of its mid-sized SUV Venue. Hyundai is currently selling the Venue, Creta, Alcazar, Tusson and Kona electric models in the SUV segment.
Garg said that the share of SUV segment in the total sales is increasing continuously and the position of Hyundai is much better than other auto companies. He said, SUVs contribute 53 per cent to Hyundai's domestic sales while the industry average share is only 41 per cent. He said that by increasing the pace of production, the company will be able to supply to the customers sooner and the long waiting period will also be reduced. (with language input)
