In response to a question asked by the members during the budget meetings of the Legislative Assembly, on the progress of the programs provided to the farmers of the state through the YSR Aquaculture Scheme. Minister Peddireddy explained to the House. He said that the government is sanctioning free bore wells to eligible farmers in command area as well as non-command area under YSR Jalkala. He said that along with these, 180 meters of cable along with power transformer, power tools are also being provided to the farmers free of charge. Minister Peddireddy said that the total number of applications received so far through online and offline is 2,28,421, out of which 1,88,571 applications have been approved by VROs in the secretariats, 66,190 applications have been completed by the Ground Water Department survey, out of which Collectors have given administration permissions to 42,388 applications. He said that drilling of 19,908 bore wells has been completed out of which all permissions have been completed.
How many bore wells across the state…
They said that a total of two lakh bore wells will be drilled in the state from 2020 to 2024, a total of three lakh. He said that it will benefit many farmers and the YSR Jalkala scheme is being implemented with the aim of providing irrigation water to five lakh acres across the state. It was said in the meeting that bore wells sanctioned under this scheme are being electrified free of charge. Peddireddy said that 1721 were electrified free of charge and the expenditure for this was Rs.54.95 crore.

Peddireddy said that the previous government had granted free bore wells to the farmers in the name of NTR Jalasiri. But he said that all of them were implemented only in the command areas and that too only up to two hundred feet drilling was allowed. It has been revealed that only 33,116 bore wells have been sanctioned to the farmers by the Telugu Desam government in the last five years. Calculations were explained in the House that the expenditure spent by the previous government was only Rs.99.35 crores. He reminded that the applications made by the farmers were sanctioned only through the MPDOs in the respective mandals and that too the policy of first priority was implemented. . He said that bore wells are being sanctioned in the command area as well as in the non-command area and drilling is being done up to the depth recommended by the geologists. He said that applications are being accepted both online and offline for transparency. We are verifying every application through VROs at the secretariat level. He said that due to abundant rains in these four years, availability of irrigation water in the ponds and lack of cultivation, even the farmers did not show much interest in bore wells. Minister Peddireddy said that the Jagan government is giving high priority to agriculture and so far 1.21 lakh free electricity connections have been given by the electricity department.
