Summer Forecast: AP will have more sunshine this year – Disaster Management Department alert

Summer Forecast: Ambedkar, Managing Director of State Disaster Management Organization, conducted a video conference on hailstorms and mitigation measures. Disaster Management Organization MD Ambedkar said that according to the Meteorological Department’s Seasonal Outlook-2023, this summer… there will be changes in the weather, humidity in the air will be high and due to its proximity to the sea, there will be more hailstorms in AP. He also clarified that high temperatures will be recorded this year. According to IMD’s estimate, temperatures will be slightly higher than normal this year compared to last year. According to the NDMA guidelines, the disaster management agency will prepare a plan for hailstorms. It will be implemented by government departments. 723 deaths in 2016, 236 in 2017, 8 in 2018 and 28 in 2019 due to hail were recorded. Officials said that due to the coordinated actions of the disaster agency and the district administration, there were no deaths due to hailstorms in 2020, 21 and 22. Officials of the concerned departments in the districts have been asked to take steps to ensure that there is no loss of life with the same effort this year. On this occasion, the Disaster Management Organization has issued several instructions to the District Collectors and officials of government departments. should be done  

  • NGOs, community groups and other organizations should be requested to start chalivendras and buttermilk distribution centers in public places, government offices, workplaces.
  • Displaying awareness posters in public places, scrolling on TVs People should be made aware of hailstorm information and precautions to be taken by doing, playing videos in theatres, distributing leaflets etc.  
  • Awareness should be created with posters in village and ward secretariats at the field level 
  • School timings should be changed or closed depending on the severity of hailstorm.
  • Organizing medical camps, ORS packets,   Adequate stock of other medicines should be established.
  • Power companies have been asked to prioritize  continuous power supply to critical facilities (like hospitals, UHCs).

    Officials informed that a department to monitor high temperatures and hailstorms has been set up in the State Emergency Operation Center of the Disaster Management Agency. He said that heat index will be issued to the district administration four days before, temperature details and instructions on the severity of hail storms will be issued two days before. Officials are advised to pay special attention to the districts where the intensity of sun is high. He said that according to the instructions of the IMD, the Disaster Management Agency will take appropriate measures and issue early warnings from time to time to reduce the loss of lives. He said that the disaster agency will send warning messages to the public while monitoring the intensity of hail storms. People should be alert as there is a high chance of rain and thunder due to sunny and occasional cumulonimbus clouds.
