It is explained that most of the cases in the state are registered in East Godavari district. He said the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positivity rate has been declining over the years and will come down to 0.87% in the year 2022-23. On the occasion of the World AIDS Day to be held on December 1, he gave details about the situation of HIV and AIDS in the state. In the year 2010-11, the HIV positive rate among the general population, especially among pregnant women, was 6.74%. By 2022-23, the rate among pregnant women has come down to 0.05%. 2,09,888 patients are reported to be under treatment for HIV-induced Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in the state. He said there are 53 anti-retroviral therapy (ART) centers and 116 ART sub-centres through which infected people are being treated.
In the year 2021-22, a total of 23,57,260 people were tested for HIV and 13,815 people were diagnosed with the infection. East Godavari district has the highest number of positive cases with 1,926, followed by Guntur (1,878 cases), Krishna (1,697), Visakhapatnam (1,221), West Godavari (1,218), Prakasam (1,182) and other districts under a thousand cases, Naveen Kumar revealed. It was explained that the positivity rate was highest in East Godavari district at 0.90% and lowest in Vizianagaram at 0.35%.
