Ex-employee’s feat in Ahmedabad, theft of office data cost the company Rs 5 crore
Ahmedabad News: A private company in Ahmedabad has got a glimpse of how big a mess the trusted employees working in the office can sometimes make. An employee of Astral Pipes, a well-known pipe manufacturer in Ahmedabad, stole all the important data from the office and defrauded the company of five crore rupees. A pipe manufacturing company has lodged a complaint with the Bodakdev police station saying that one of its former employees and his son have stolen data from the office system. With its help, he has done business with the client of the company separately and has caused a loss of five crore rupees to the company.

Astral Pipes HR General Manager Viral Mankodi has stated in the FIR that his company manufactures plumbing materials, industrial pipes, drainage and valve systems. The company has its office near Rajpath Club in Bodakdev area.

An employee named T Vijayan Menon was working as Assistant General Manager in the company since September 2011. Vijayan has signed a non-disclosure agreement with the company. Under it he cannot share company data with anyone. As Vijayan worked in the marketing department, he had the details of all the company’s distributors and their contact details. Company officials had full faith in Vijayan and did not monitor his activities. It has been alleged in the FIR that Vijay took advantage of this and started baro administration.

On 25 November 2022, two distributors of Astral Pipes met Jitendra Indrodia, the company’s business finance manager, and complained that Vijayan and his son Rishabh were doing business outside of Astral Pipes’ clients.

As stated in the FIR, Vijayan and his son together formed a company named Tulsi Associates. His office is also located near Surdhara Circle. Vijayan and his son sold goods directly to customers who placed purchase orders with Astral Pipes. So the company has suffered a loss of five crore rupees. The father-son cheating company has also threatened some distributors that they will not get orders on time if they inform the company about this. He also took Rs 65 lakh from the distributors. Bodakdev police have registered a case under sections of breach of trust and IT Act and started further investigation.
