Due to record wheat export this year, farmers were coming to the mandis very little. Because they were getting more than the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the open market. Therefore, many states had stopped the procurement process in the mandis ahead of time. But, after the Central Government imposed a ban on wheat exports on May 13, the states again got hope of the buzzing of grain markets. Therefore, after the decision of the Center, they started the procurement process again. But the re-introduced wheat procurement has proved to be a super flop. For example, you can take the country’s major wheat producer Haryana. Where farmers sold only 6,441 metric tonnes of wheat to the government in eight days.
That is why the CM here, Manoharlal, is also crying that the mandis are open but no farmer is coming to sell wheat. Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala is also doing something similar. Let us inform here that Haryana had set a target of buying 85 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this year. But till now even half of its wheat has not been bought.
What did Dushyant Chautala say?
Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala said that from April 1 to May 15, 2022, a total of 41,40,135 metric tonnes of wheat were procured by various agencies of the government. While 6,441 metric tonnes of wheat were purchased from farmers till May 23 after the procurement resumed from May 16. He claimed that the state government is committed to buy every grain of wheat of the farmers at MSP. Farmers are being paid their crops on time and money is being sent directly to their bank accounts.
How much money did the farmers get?
Chautala said that till now Rs 7513.62 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers as MSP of wheat. The government had instructed the officials that the money for the purchase of wheat should be transferred to the bank accounts of the farmers within 72 hours. Timely lifting of the crop from the mandis was ensured. The Deputy CM said that this time preparations were made for the purchase of mustard in 92 mandis. Whereas 411 mandis were arranged for wheat, 11 for gram, 25 for the purchase of barley.
The Deputy CM said that the state government, as per its promise, bought Rabi crops at MSP. Mustard was purchased at Rs 5,050 per quintal, wheat at Rs 2,015 per quintal, gram at Rs 5,230 per quintal and barley at Rs 1,635 per quintal by various procurement agencies.
