Rice can be expensive like wheat, production will be 7 million tonnes less than the target… here is the report

The Union Agriculture Ministry has released the first advance estimates of production of the main Kharif crops for 2022-23. In this, a worrying picture is emerging about rice like wheat. rice production A record 7.01 million tonnes may fall short of the government’s target. That is, a shortfall of more than 70 lakh tonnes. Due to which it can be expensive. The government had set a target of producing 112 million tonnes this year, but the report that has come out states that its production is estimated to be only 104.99 million tonnes. In the last year i.e. 2021-22, rice production was 111.76 million tonnes.

Even though a worrying situation is coming to the fore on the rice front. But, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar says that the total production of Kharif season rice is 4.40 million tonnes more than the average of 100.59 million tonnes in the last five years (2016-17 to 2020-21). It has been told that due to poor monsoon and dwarf, there may be a decrease in rice production.

Tomar said that a total of 149.92 million tonnes of food grains are estimated to be produced this year in the Kharif season. This is 6.98 million tonnes more than the average foodgrain production of the last five years (2016-17 to 2020-21). Agriculture sector is progressing day by day due to the tireless hard work of farmers, skill of scientists and farmer friendly policies of the government. As per the first first advance estimates, the estimated production of major Kharif crops during 2022-23 is as follows.

  • Nutritious/Coarse Cereals 36.56 Million Tonnes
  • Maize – 23.10 million tonnes (record)
  • Pulses 8.37 million tonnes
  • Tur – 3.89 million tonnes
  • Oilseeds 23.57 million tonnes
  • Groundnut 8.37 million tonnes
  • soybean 12.89 million tonnes
  • Cotton 34.19 million bales (per 170 kg)
  • Jute & Mesta 10.09 million bales (per 180 kg)
  • Sugarcane 465.05 million tonnes (record)

  • The production of maize in the country during the year 2022-23 is estimated at a record 23.10 million tonnes, which is 3.21 million tonnes more than the average sugarcane production of 21.56 million tonnes.
  • The production of Kharif nutritive/coarse cereals is estimated at 36.56 million tonnes, which is higher by 2.92 million tonnes than the average production of 33.64 million tonnes. The total Kharif pulses production during the year 2022-23 is estimated at 8.37 million tonnes.
  • The total Kharif oilseeds production in the country during the year 2022-23 is estimated at 23.57 million tonnes, higher by 1.74 million tonnes than the average oilseeds production.
  • The production of sugarcane in the country during the year 2022-23 is estimated at record 465.05 million tonnes. Sugarcane production during 2022-23 is higher by 91.59 million tonnes than the average sugarcane production of 373.46 million tonnes.
  • The production of cotton is estimated at 34.19 million bales (bales per 170 kg) and production of jute and mesta at 10.09 million bales (bales of 180 kg).
