According to media reports, the main objective of this initiative of the Andhra Pradesh government is to create an integrated tomato value chain in the tomato growing areas of Chittoor, Anantapur and YSR Cuddapah. It will involve various stakeholders and cover the entire chain from the manufacturing sector to the point of consumption. Notably, as part of this project, Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society (APFPS) will collaborate with LEAF to develop a value chain.

Marketing and food processing will greatly help farmers

At the same time, the National Agricultural Corporation Marketing Federation Limited (NAFED) will work as a coordinating organization for the implementation of price stability measures. Experts say that the agreement with LEAF will be important in bringing value to farmers in Andhra Pradesh. LEAF and APFPS will collaborate with NGO APMAS to promote Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy said that cooperation, marketing and food processing in Andhra Pradesh will help farmers a lot.

The three organizations will also help farmers reduce post-harvest losses, expand processing capabilities and improve marketing links and intelligence, he added.
