Jharkhand will be declared drought-hit on the basis of draft manual, read which districts will be included

In view of the drought situation in Jharkhand, the Agriculture Department is constantly monitoring it. Agriculture Department Officials of the state are meeting continuously and the situation is being reviewed. In this sequence, Jharkhand State Agriculture Director Nisha Oraon held a meeting with the Joint Secretary of Jharkhand. In this meeting, the situation of agriculture and drought situation in the state were discussed. Also, discussions were held to declare the state drought-hit.

State Agriculture Director Nisha Oraon said that according to the rules set for declaring drought, the data of how much rain has been received till the end of July should be collected. He said that work is being done on this, as well as said that there are about 15 districts of the state where less than 50 percent rainfall has been recorded. Data is also being prepared about how many rainy days and dry days are there.

Districts with less than 33 percent sowing will be declared drought

Nisha Oraon further said that according to the discussion held in the meeting, the data is also being prepared about the area in which Kharif crops are sown or transplanted till August 15 in the state. The data of transplanting and sowing done by the department till August 15 will be submitted. After this, the districts where less than 33 percent area has been sown or transplanted till August 15, those districts can be declared drought-hit.

These standards will be checked

Apart from all these parameters, three more factors will be examined to declare these districts as drought-hit. In which the data of how many days it rained and how many days it remained dry in the respective districts will be prepared by the Irrigation Department, as well as the soil moisture of the respective districts will be checked, remote sensing of the districts will also be done to declare drought-hit. After this the concerned district will be declared drought-hit. Now the next meeting regarding this will be held on August 18. The districts of the state can be declared drought-hit on this day.

Special discussion took place in the house

Significantly, during the monsoon session, the main opposition BJP had created a ruckus in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly over the demand to declare the state as drought-hit. A special discussion on drought was organized in the house. During this, Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh told that there are 27 lakh hectares of cultivable land in Jharkhand, but only about 7 lakh hectares have been cultivated. The state has still been able to achieve only 35 per cent of the set target of transplanting. During this, he had also given information about the schemes being run for the farmers in the state.
