In fact, the Central Government started the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in August 2014 to help marginal farmers and economically weaker people. The specialty of this scheme is that the person who currently does not have a bank account can open a savings bank deposit account under PMJDY by visiting any bank branch or business representative outlet. After this one can take advantage of this scheme.

Who is eligible to open PMJDY account?

According to Krishi Jagran, to open an account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, beneficiaries need both Aadhaar card and PAN card. Other proof of eligibility includes Driving License, Voter’s ID Card, Passport and NREGA Job Card authorized by a Gazetted Officer. One can get the application form from the official website of any bank. At the same time, minors above 10 years of age can also open a savings account in the bank branch. On the official website of PMJDY, the account opening form for the scheme is available in both English and Hindi languages.

How to check PMJDY account balance?

  • There are two ways to check your PMJDY account balance.
  • You can check balance either through missed call or through PFMS website.
  • Or visit the official website to check pfms portal balance.
  • Then click on payment.
  • Now type your account number.
  • After this you have to enter the given captcha code.
  • Now your account balance will appear on the screen in front of you.
  • If you have a Jan Dhan account with State Bank of India, you can check your account balance by giving a missed call.
  • You can do this by giving a missed call on 18004253800 or 1800112211 from your registered mobile number.

What are the benefits of Jan Dhan account?

There is no requirement for the account holders of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana to maintain a certain minimum balance in their account. Under this scheme a person is given a RuPay Debit Card and has the option to apply to the bank for an overdraft (OD) of Rs 10,000 on this account. Explain that the OD limit was earlier fixed at Rs 5,000 and later it was increased to Rs 10,000. Now there is no restriction on OD up to Rs.2,000. A person can get OD up to Rs 2,000 only if his Jan Dhan account is at least six months old to use the OD facility.
