Rejecting reports of shortage of fertilizers in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, the Center said that major fertilizers including urea and DAP are available in sufficient quantity across the country for the current rabi season. In a statement, the Ministry of Fertilizers said, some media reports have claimed shortage of fertilizers in Trichy, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Such reports are beyond facts. It is clarified that fertilizers are available in sufficient quantity to meet the requirements of the ongoing Rabi (winter) season in the country.
Central government is sending fertilizers to all the states as per requirement and it is the responsibility of the respective state governments to ensure its availability through better distribution system within the district and between the districts. According to the ministry, the requirement of urea for the Rabi season of 2022 is estimated to be 180.18 lakh tonnes. On a proportionate basis, the requirement till November 16 was 57.40 lakh tonnes, against which the government has ensured availability of 92.54 lakh tonnes. During this period, the sale of urea has been 38.43 lakh tonnes. In addition, states have an earlier stock of 54.11 lakh tonnes. Apart from this, there is a stock of 1.05 lakh tonnes in urea plants and 5.03 lakh tonnes at ports.
There is a stock of 4.51 lakh tonnes at the ports
In case of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), the estimated requirement for Rabi season is 55.38 lakh tonnes, the ministry said. On pro-rata basis the requirement till 16th November was 26.98. While the ministry has ensured the availability of 36.90 lakh tonnes. During this period the sale of DAP has been 24.57 lakh tonnes. In addition, states have an earlier unspent stock of 12.33 lakh tonnes. In addition, there is 0.51 lakh tonne stock at DAP plants and 4.51 lakh tonne stock at ports to meet the demand.
Similarly, the estimated requirement of Muriate of Potash (MOP) for Rabi season is 14.35 lakh tonnes. The proportionate requirement till November 16 was 5.28 lakh tonnes, while the ministry has ensured availability of 8.04 lakh tonnes. During this period, the sale of MOP was 3.01 lakh tonnes and the previous stock with the states is 5.03 lakh tonnes. Apart from this, 1.17 lakh tonnes of stock is lying at the ports to meet the demand of MOP.
Ministry has ensured availability of 40.76 lakh tonnes
In case of NPKS fertilizers, the estimated requirement for rabi season is 56.97 lakh tonnes. The requirement on proportionate basis till 16 November was 20.12 lakh tonnes. In lieu of this, the ministry has ensured the availability of 40.76 lakh tonnes. During this period, the sale of NPKS has been 15.99 lakh tonnes. In addition, states have a backlog of 24.77 lakh tonnes, while plants have 1.24 lakh tonnes and ports have 2.93 lakh tonnes to meet the demand. The estimated requirement of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) for Rabi season is 33.64 lakh tonnes. The proportionate requirement till 16 November was 14.05 lakh tonnes. While the ministry has ensured the availability of 24.79 lakh tonnes.
SSP sales have been 9.25 lakh tonnes
During this period the sale of SSP has been 9.25 lakh tonnes. Apart from this, there is an earlier stock of 15.54 lakh tonnes lying in the states. A stock of 1.65 lakh tonnes is also available with the plants to meet the demand. Thus, the availability of Urea, DAP, MOP, NPKS and SSP fertilizers in the country is sufficient to meet the requirements of Rabi season, the ministry said. Presently, sowing of rabi crops like wheat, gram and mustard is underway. According to government data, the total cultivated area under all rabi crops has increased to 268.80 lakh hectare in this rabi season till November 18 from 250.76 lakh hectare in the year-ago period.
