The Chief Secretary clearly told the companies that any delay in this matter will be taken seriously by the government. Mohapatra directed the Odisha Space Applications Center including Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Departments, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare to prepare a plan for crop-wise ‘area and yield evaluation’ through space technology.
These crops can be insured
Eight crops paddy, groundnut, maize, tur, ragi, cotton, ginger and turmeric will be insured during Kharif-2022. At the same time, a total of nine crops including paddy, groundnut, black gram, green gram, mustard, sunflower, sugarcane, potato and onion will be insured for the Rabi season. Special secretary Sanjeev Chadha said that normally the gram panchayat and urban local body would be the insurance unit for paddy. There will be a block insurance unit for crops other than paddy. The last date for enrollment for Kharif insurance will be July 31.
