APEDA will promote export of one agricultural product from one district, pilot project started

Various efforts are being made to promote agricultural exports in the country. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched a pilot project under One District One Product Program in seven districts of five states to provide necessary infrastructure and financial support through convergence mode to accelerate export of agricultural produce. The districts where the pilot has been started include selected products from the districts of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Talking about the district wise production of these districts, Lucknow (Mango), Nagpur (Mandarin Orange), Nashik (Onion), Sangli (Grape) in Maharashtra, Krishna (Mango) in Andhra Pradesh, Kumuram Bheem (Millet) in Telangana and Tamil Nadu Includes products like Dharmapuri (millet). APEDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Food Processing is organizing sensitization workshops of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and Self Help Groups (SHGs) to promote export of unique agricultural products from these districts.

Districts will be developed as export hub

According to the Financial Express, an official said that under ODOP, export of a particular agricultural product to each district benefiting farmers and FPOs, benefiting farmers and FPOs along with providing market facilities for selected products as well as utilizing its export potential. APEDA President M Angamuthu told FE, “Through facilitating buyers and sellers to meet FPOs, FPCs and cooperatives, we have facilitated the export of more than 50 products under ODOP. He further said that convergence of the program will allow farmers and exporters to build common facilities such as cooling chambers and pack houses and other infrastructure.

The goal of collecting resources through the schemes of the Center

Under the One District One Product program, the target has been set to mobilize resources through the schemes of the Center related to agriculture and horticulture. The Centre’s plans include Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, National Food Security Mission, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana and various schemes of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Along with this, APEDA has also created export promotion platforms to promote export of grapes, onion, mango, banana, pomegranate, floriculture, rice, dairy products and nutritious cereals.
