The area under wheat sowing has increased by 15 per cent to 101.49 lakh hectare in the current rabi (winter) season so far as compared to the same period last year. As per the latest sowing data, wheat has been sown in 101.49 lakh hectare till November 18 this rabi season, as against 88.46 lakh hectare in the year-ago period. The data showed that the sowing of wheat in Punjab (7.18 lakh hectare), Rajasthan (4.24 lakh hectare), Uttar Pradesh (2.59 lakh hectare), Maharashtra (1.05 lakh hectare) and Gujarat (0.67 lakh hectare) is more than last year. carried out in the area.

However, the area under pulses has been less in this rabi season as compared to last year. According to the data, so far pulses have been sown in 73.25 lakh hectare, which was 76.08 lakh hectare in the year-ago period. Among pulses, gram was sown in 52.57 lakh hectare, while gram was sown in 52.83 lakh hectare during the same period last year.

In case of oilseeds, about 66.81 lakh hectares were sown under six types of oilseeds, which is higher than 59.22 lakh hectares in the year-ago period. During this period, rapeseed and mustard have been sown in more areas i.e. 63.25 lakh hectare as compared to last year’s 55.13 lakh hectare. The data shows that coarse cereals were sown in 19.24 lakh hectare as against 19.80 lakh hectare earlier, while rice was sown in 8.03 lakh hectare as against 7.21 lakh hectare in the said period. The total area under all rabi crops in this rabi season till November 18 is 268.80 lakh hectare, slightly higher than 250.76 lakh hectare in the same period a year ago.
